We hit the 1,500 kilometer mark today. We seem to be doing more distance than planned, but it’s going okay.

Our route took us through a lot of heavy industry on our way to Koln. As we neared the city, traffic on the trail became heavier. Not my favorite kind of riding, dodging pedestrians and other cyclists, many just rambling along in their own little world.

There were thousands of tourists in Cologne. Pushing a loaded bike through crowds isn’t a lot of fun, so I just took the obligatory picture of the Cologne Cathedral and we moved on to a calmer place for lunch.

We’re camped right on the Rhine River today. It’s a bit noisy, but worth it to watch all the river traffic going by. The Rhine is the busiest river I’ve ever seen, with a steady flow of river freighters and cruise ships, however there doesn’t seem to be as much cruise ship traffic downstream from Cologne. I suppose most of the cruises depart from Cologne and head upstream to more scenic areas.
