We had planned to slowly ride through Heidelberg and then through Ladenburg before heading to Camping Mannheim Beach. A short ride of about 25km. Unfortunately the email that I had sent to the campground last night was responded to with a negative for availability.

We had done an early morning walk around Old Town, so we decided to forego Ladenburg and go to Biebesheim am Rhein instead.

It was hot riding today! Nevertheless we went through some beautiful vineyards and even had some tailwinds from time to time as we zigzagged our way along the bicycle route.

We went to Campingfreunde Schusterworth first, but were told they did not accept tents. This place had glowing reviews on Google from other cyclists. Honestly if you do a google search it sounds fantastic. Very disturbing at this point.
Fortunately Campinggemeinschaft Rheinblick was right next door, and Google mentioned that they accepted cyclists. There was no response to the bell, but a helpful man who spoke a little english was able to locate the manager, and we were in!
Through our new interpreter we completed the paperwork, and were given a spot for our tent. The manager opened his makeshift bar and sold us a couple of beer on the initial tour of the campground. Note for the future, don’t drink a beer on a hot day before the tent is set up!

Sounds like quite an adventure! It’s great that Cruise Port Village took care of the paperwork, making the arrival smoother.…
