Back in Vancouver

  • Het Amsterdams Bos to Vancouver

7 weeks have really slipped by. It was time to pack up for the final time to cycle to the airport and fly home to Canada. The weather has once again been kind. The promised rain has held off, and we have a dry ride to the airport. As we approached the terminal we reached 2,000 kilometers of riding for our tour. Wow, we hadn’t planned to ride quite that far, but it’s a very satisfying number.

We’ve given ourselves 5 hours at the airport in case we have the same fiasco that we had in Vancouver. Fortunately at Schiphol they’ve got it together, and the process of getting our bike box, packing the bike, and getting it all on it’s way to the plane goes smoothly, so we have lots of time to relax before our flight.

Now it was time for the most gruelling segment of our trip, the 9 hour flight home. The IT band in my right leg has been cramping when I sit for long periods, and the angle of the seats in a plane seems to be just right to make it very uncomfortable.

Otherwise the flight was very smooth, and we arrived back in Vancouver only a little worse for wear. After 2 hours of clearing customs, waiting for our bikes to arrive, reassembling them and pumping up the tires we had the short 10 kilometer ride back up to Kurt’s. Funny after all we’ve done, in a way it feels like we never left!

  1. Wonderful trip! Congratulations on going the distance and toughing out the rocky start with both of you having colds. The scenery was amazing and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your adventure.

Enjoy returning to your own bed and house. Take a breather and pause to enjoy Ladysmith.
