Canal du Centre
We mostly followed the Canal du Centre today as it gently locked up, then locked down. It’s nice to get the boost of speed at each lock on the way down, but the path is always flat between the locks even though we’re constantly losing altitude. Everything was shut tight today (Sunday) as France prepares… Continue reading

Palinges
We’re seeing more convection clouds with the heat. So far they’ve been harmless, dissipating as it cools in the evening, but if this heat continues, eventually in the next few days they’re going to hit critical mass and form some thunder heads. We’ll want to be off the road before that time of day. Camping… Continue reading

Rolling Hills
The town of Carrin had set up a campsite on the EuroVelo just for cyclists. We had a nice evening visiting with fellow cyclists, and a nice quiet sleep before heading on this morning. Much more challenging terrain today with a lot of ups and downs for the first half of the day. Fortunately after… Continue reading

Rural France
It’s amazing how much rural area there is in France. Our German neighbors in Camping de Nevers had told us that there is no shopping on our next leg, so we made sure to buy breakfast and lunch before we left Nevers. Today we rode through almost nothing but farm land. We were able to… Continue reading

Finally Moving Again
We ended up spending three days in La Charite. We had an arrangement to have a nurse remove a suture from Chris. She had some suspicious spots removed in Ladysmith, and I was supposed to remove the sutures. Easy peasy, I’ve done it before, but one was being difficult. We were given the nurses address,… Continue reading

La Charite sur Loire
Cyclists don’t have any cool analogies like the cruiser’s “plans are written in the sand at low tide”, but this morning the weather didn’t seem so ominous, so we decided to pack up and move on. Another easy ride to La Charite sur Loire. The EuroVelo will sometimes take you on a side trip from… Continue reading

Start of EuroVelo 6
We had a young Swiss man stop by and say hi this morning. He asked where we were from. “Oh Canada, I was there, I cycled to Whitehorse with my parents.” We told him that we had seen a family riding while we were on the Alaska Highway with our trailer. Did he have a… Continue reading

Nearing the end of EuroVelo 3
Beautiful country riding with just a few small towns. Perfect timing to get lunch at a boulangerie. We mixed it up a bit today, mostly riding beside canals, but also a bit of back country roads through fields of wheat. It’s a bit more challenging, as this introduced a few more hills. Not a big… Continue reading

That’s more like it!
Total 226km Today 48km Montigny sur Loing to Montargis Part cloudy, high 18c A nice ride today. Almost entirely on perfectly flat tow paths. We’re finally getting good signage for the EuroVelo 3, almost no need for electronic maps. Beautiful cycling in rural France, we only passed through one town before arriving here. Continue reading

Montigny sur Loing
I need to be more careful planning our route. Komoot is the planning tool that I use, and it seems to work out most of the time. It gives all of the statistics for the planned ride including elevation gain and loss, way type, and surface. Today I learned an important lesson. Pay attention to… Continue reading
