Riding With The Hordes.

  • Total 1298km
  • Today 41km
  • Biebesheim am Rhein to Mainz
  • Mostly sunny, high 30c

We left the friendly folks at Campinggemeinschaft Rheinblick to zigzag our way to the dikes and on to Mainz. Mostly tailwinds for us in this section, and we completed most of the ride before the heat really turned on.

It turns out that this section of dike riding is extremely popular. Bus loads of tourists are dropped off with e-bikes, along with the speed junkies on their racing machines dodging the slower moving bicycle tourists. It’s the biggest crowds we’ve seen so far.

Shortly before arriving in Mainz we stopped at a cafe for a very interesting brunch for two. It was their breakfast menu, but I’m not sure how anyone could eat that much first thing in the morning.

It came with a basket of buns, and a platter of cold cuts, sausages, lox, cheeses and sauces. Topped off with a fruit salad and yogurt with Nutella on the side as well as a fresh squeezed orange juice in a champagne glass. It’s a build your own sandwiches meal, and tons of fun.

Breakfast German style.

Chris and Sarah have joined us for this section of the ride today having successfully completed the 100km into headwinds qualifying ride from Koblenz.
